Join us for the first ever Backcountry BioBlitz at Land’escapes!

What: In partnership with Blazing Star Environmental, we are hosting the first ever backcountry bioblitz at Land’escapes. Come for a full day fundraising event where teams of volunteers work together to find and identify as many species as possible. All proceeds will go to the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTTC).

The winning team with the most species ID’s will win a weekend trip of their choice back at Land’escapes sometime this summer!

When: June 17, 2023, 8am-4pm

Where: Land’escapes Park (directions)

Price: $20/head – All proceeds will go to the OTTC. Payment can be sent by e-transfer following registration or with cash on arrival. Limited to 40 people.

How to Participate:
Participants must register in teams of 2-8 people. At least one person must be a biologist or naturalist in order to reliably make species identifications. You will use inaturalist to make all identifications using pictures and videos.

Attendees have the option to come just for the day on June 17th or camp at our backcountry sites on June 16 and/or June 17. There are no additional fees for camping. Please note that there are only backcountry camping options available. More information below.

Campsites are all basic backcountry sites for tent camping with a thunderbox privy and fire ring. Backcountry sites mean that you will need to hike and possibly paddle to reach your campsite. There is no opportunity for camping with a vehicle. There is an outhouse in the main parking lot. There is no drinking water on site, please be sure to bring your own food and water. There is a limited power supply at the parking lot. All campsites will be assigned on a first come first serve basis.

A BBQ will be provided for all participants at the end of the day on June 17th at 5PM.
