Backcountry BioBlitz
at Land'escapes
Join us for the third annual Backcountry BioBlitz at Land’escapes!
We are pleased to be holding the Backcountry Bioblitz at Land’escapes again this year! Come for a 24 hour fundraising event where teams of volunteers work together to find and identify as many species as possible. All proceeds will go to the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTTC).
The winning team with the most species ID’s will win a weekend trip of their choice for up to 4 people at Land’escapes sometime this summer! There will also be other prizes for identifications in various categories.

Price: $50/per person – All proceeds will go to the OTTC. Payment can be sent by e-transfer following registration or with cash on arrival. Includes one free night of camping at Land’escapes on June 14th, for those who’d like to get an early start!
How to Participate
Participants must register in teams of 2-6 people. At least one person must have some naturalist experience in order to reliably make species identifications. You will use iNaturalist to make all identifications using pictures and videos.
Accommodations
Attendees have the option to come during the days of the event or camp at our backcountry sites on June 6th. There are no additional fees for camping but gear rental is an extra charge. Please note that there are only backcountry camping options available. More information below.
Facilities
Campsites are all basic backcountry sites for tent camping with a thunderbox privy and fire ring. Backcountry sites mean that you will need to hike and possibly paddle to reach your campsite. There is no opportunity for camping with a vehicle. There are bathrooms in the gatehouse at the main parking lot. There is no drinking water on site, so please be sure to bring your own food and water filtration system. There is a limited power supply at the parking lot. All campsites and Bioblitz zones will be distributed on a first come first served basis, however, we will try to keep your group’s particular interests in mind.
BBQ
A BBQ will be provided for all participants after the Bioblitz has concluded on June 7th around 2pm.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for most/best observations in specific categories.
