Land’escapes is providing hunters with the opportunity to join our Big Woods Hunting program for the 2026 deer hunting season! Located just south of Bancroft, Ontario (Wildlife Management Units 60 & 61), the program will appeal to responsible hunters seeking a more challenging backcountry hunting experience. Hunters will be vetted, and get set up with a designated hunting area ranging from 200-600 acres.
Hunters will be encouraged to employ a variety of tactics including tracking, still hunting, sitting and hunting out of stands or tree saddles. We do not allow dogging, and all hunting must be done on foot. Post-season reporting will be mandatory and ethical harvests are a top priority. We do not allow ATVs or any other motorized vehicles beyond designated campsites.
What’s included?
Every hunting parcel will come equipped with the following infrastructure, amenities, and features:

Parcels range from 200 to 600 acres; group sizes are limited to 6 hunters.
Each parcel will have a variety of habitats and forest types. Access to the parcel will be from Highway 62, the Hastings Heritage Trail, or a private road. Examples are available upon request. Access may be limited during black powder season depending on weather conditions.
The guest rate for any package will be $100. Guests are anyone joining the group who is not hunting – e.g. cooks, partners, kids, grandparents, etc
There is no cost for hunters under 16 years of age.

If we are in alignment, you will be invited to do a site visit with the Park Operations Manager. Site visits are available starting January 15 (depending on accessibility and snow conditions).
Once an area has been selected, a deposit or full payment must be made in order to reserve the parcel. This is first come, first served. Full payment for the 2026 season must be made prior to the start of the hunting season.
No. This is strictly a deer management program intended to maintain healthy wildlife populations within the Park and surrounding area
Scouting trips mean up to two nights spent exploring and preparing yourself for the season. Reach out for more details. Group size limits for trips may apply.
Yes. We allow trailers (up to 20 ft in length) to be brought in while you are present on the property. You are also welcome to sleep off-site and come in for day-use.
The maximum number of people (hunters and/or guests) permitted on your parcel is six.
Aside from safe hunting rules in general, bear in mind that Land’escapes is a place for quiet, responsible recreation. We require all hunters to carry sufficient public and third-party liability insurance before using the Licensed Property for hunting or fishing, as provided by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters or another comparable carrier. We don’t allow speaker systems, target shooting, recreational ATVing, or overindulging with alcohol/drugs. Our approach to hunting focuses on low environmental impact, low stress on animal populations, hunting on foot, using fair chase methods, and putting the focus on hunting and the outdoor experience rather than “camp life”.

It means that you and your group will be the only people with permission to access the parcel
for the specific season that you have paid for. Land’escapes staff maintain the right to be on site at any time, and there is always the possibility of trespassers wandering in.

A hunting license agreement and a lease are two distinct legal arrangements related to the use of land for hunting purposes. Here are the key differences between the two:
Hunting License Agreement: This is typically a revocable permission or authorization granted by the landowner to the hunter, allowing them to enter and use the land for hunting purposes. It doesn’t transfer any interest in the land to the hunter.
Lease: A lease, on the other hand, is a contractual agreement that grants the lessee exclusive possession and use of the land for a specified period. Unlike a license, a lease creates an interest in the land. We do not offer leases.
During the hunt, you are allowed to spend time throughout your parcel on foot, spend time quietly in camp, and even spend time elsewhere in The Park (contact us for details).
